Daily bet research report
Daily Bet Research Report โ Thursday, July 23, 2026 (REVISED v2)
Bankroll: $212.64 | Available: $212.64 | Stake (20%): $42.53 Band: Decimal 1.50+ | Record: 33-17-2 | Hit rate: 66.0% (33/50 settled)
Last bet: Bet #53 (Dodgers ML) WIN +$30.38. โ My earlier version had Seymour listed as Rays starter โ actual is Casey Legumina (5.44 ERA). This materially changes the Rays edge. Revising fully.
Process apology
I pulled the Rays starter from my initial NBC Sports search which said "Ian Seymour vs Shane Bieber" โ that was stale data. Actual confirmed starter is Casey Legumina (5.44 ERA, 6-7). This is a real error on my part.
Fix locked into workflow.md: For same-day starter confirmations, cross-reference at least 2 sources dated within the last 24 hours OR check ESPN/Baseball-Reference previews directly. A single expert-analysis article can be stale.
Step 3 โ Schedule Verification (bookable now)
Off the board or in-progress: - ~~SD @ ATL 12:15 PM~~ (started) - ~~MIN @ CLE 1:10 PM~~ (starting/started depending on exact time)
Still bookable (3 games): - TB @ TOR, 3:07 PM ET โ Legumina vs Bieber - AZ @ STL, 5:15 PM ET โ Pfaadt vs McGreevy - KC @ DET, 6:40 PM ET โ Dobnak vs Melton
Step 4 โ Per-Game Research (updated)
TB @ TOR (3:07 PM, Rogers Centre)
Confirmed starters (verified): - Casey Legumina (TB, 6-7, 5.44 ERA) โ traded midseason from Seattle - Shane Bieber (TOR, 1-1, 5.70 ERA) โ former Cy Young, struggling
Records: - Rays 59-42 (AL East leaders) - Blue Jays 46-56
Series context (still strong): - Rays outscored TOR 23-5 in first 3 games - Rays 3-0 vs TOR this year, covered RL every time
Lines: - Rays -112 (decimal 1.86), Blue Jays -108 (~1.93)
Read โ WITH CORRECT PITCHER: - Pitching essentially even (Legumina 5.44 vs Bieber 5.70 = 0.26 ERA gap) - Rays edge comes purely from team quality + series form + head-to-head history - Not from the pitching mismatch I initially claimed - True estimate: ~55-60% (was 62-65% with Seymour) - Edge: +2-6% Moderate (was Strong)
Still positive EV, but this is a Moderate play now โ not the marquee edge.
AZ @ STL (5:15 PM, Busch Stadium)
Confirmed starters: - Brandon Pfaadt (AZ, 4-1, 4.58 ERA) - Michael McGreevy (STL, 4-7, 2.96 ERA) โ real pitching edge
Lines: - Cardinals -130 (decimal 1.77), Diamondbacks +105 (~2.05) - Dimers: Cardinals 57.5%
Read: Mixed signals: - Pitching edge: STL (1.62 ERA gap) - Momentum: AZ (outscored last 3 opponents 26-15, STL cold 4 straight L's) - Cards at 1.77 implied 56.5% vs true ~55-58% โ essentially fair, 0-2% edge
Pass โ no clean edge either way.
KC @ DET (6:40 PM, Comerica Park)
Confirmed starters: - Randy Dobnak (KC) - Troy Melton (DET, 1.80 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, sub-1.00 ERA in last 4 home starts)
Records: - Tigers 27-23 home - Royals 17-33 road
Lines: - Tigers -210 (decimal 1.48) โ too chalky - Under 8.0 recommended (Under -100/+100)
Read: - Tigers ML at 1.48 = negative edge (implied 67.7% vs true 63-66%) - Under 8.0 has real structural edge โ Melton dominant at Comerica, Dobnak weak, pitcher-friendly park - True estimate: ~55-60% Under - Edge: +5-10% Moderate-Strong
Step 5 โ Edge Math & Pick Selection (TWO-LENS, 3 OPTIONS EACH)
LENS 1 โ MAX-EV PLAYS
EV Option A โ MODERATE-STRONG: Under 8.0 KC/DET @ ~2.00 โญ
Stake: $42.53 โ returns ~$85, profit ~$42.53
Edge math: - Implied at 2.00 = 50% - Melton 1.80 ERA + sub-1.00 at Comerica + Dobnak road struggles - True estimate: ~55-60% - Edge: +5-10% โ Moderate-Strong - EV: 0.575 ร $42.53 โ 0.425 ร $42.53 = +$6.38 โญ
Cleanest edge on the board today with corrected data.
EV Option B โ MODERATE: Rays ML @ 1.86 (weakened)
Stake: $42.53 โ returns $79.11, profit $36.58
Edge math: - Implied at 1.86 = 53.8% - True: ~55-60% (team edge + series form; no pitching mismatch anymore) - Edge: +2-6% โ Moderate - EV: 0.575 ร $36.58 โ 0.425 ร $42.53 = +$2.96
Still positive but half of what I initially projected. Legumina isn't the arm Seymour is.
EV Option C โ SPECULATIVE: Rays SGP with boost (if you want the WC-final-style swing)
If bet365 30% boost still available: - Rays ML @ 1.86 - Bieber 3+ K @ ~1.18 (still solid amplifier) - Under 12.5 game runs @ ~1.06 (near-lock)
Naive: 1.86 ร 1.18 ร 1.06 = 2.33 With 30% boost: ~2.73
True: 0.575 ร 0.87 ร 0.94 = ~47% At 2.73 implied 36.6% โ Edge +10% EV: ~+$11.75
But โ Legumina factor makes even this SGP anchor weaker than intended.
LENS 2 โ MAX-HIT-RATE PLAYS
HR Option A โ DUAL LENS: Under 8.0 KC/DET @ ~2.00
Same as EV Option A. 58% hit + real edge. - Hit rate: ~58%, EV: +$6.38
HR Option B โ MODERATE HIT: Rays ML @ 1.86
Same as EV Option B. 57% hit + thin edge. - Hit rate: ~57%, EV: +$2.96
HR Option C โ HIGH HIT: Rest day
Bet nothing. - Preserves $42.53 stake - Bankroll approaches all-time high โ no need to press - Friday's slate should offer cleaner template matches
Plays considered, not making the cut
- Tigers ML @ 1.48: Too chalky, negative edge. Skip.
- Cardinals ML @ 1.77: Fair pricing, mixed signals. Skip.
- Rays ML at earlier estimate: I was wrong. Now Moderate at best.
- Any parlay: same rule.
My recommendation
Two-lens matrix (revised)
| # | Option | Lens | Decimal | Hit Rate | EV |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Under 8.0 KC/DET โญ | Max-EV / Dual | 2.00 | 58% | +$6.38 |
| B | Rays ML (weakened) | Max-EV | 1.86 | 57% | +$2.96 |
| C | Rays SGP w/boost | Max-EV speculative | ~2.73 | 47% | +$11.75 (if boost) |
| D | Under 8.0 (dual) | Max-Hit-Rate | 2.00 | 58% | +$6.38 |
| E | Rays ML (dual) | Max-Hit-Rate | 1.86 | 57% | +$2.96 |
| F | Rest Day | Max-Hit-Rate โญ | โ | โ | preserve |
The honest call (with corrected data)
Best positive-EV play: Under 8.0 KC/DET (Option A). Structural edge from Melton's dominance + Comerica park + Dobnak's road struggles. No pitcher-identity risk โ this is a data-driven Under that doesn't depend on which starter is confirmed.
Rays ML is now a Moderate play, not a marquee edge. Still positive EV (+$2.96), still worth considering, but nothing like the +$7.71 I projected earlier. If you liked the Rays play primarily because of the pitching mismatch, that reason is gone. Team form/series dominance edge remains but is thinner.
Rest day is genuinely fine. Bankroll at $212.64 approaches ATH ($236.26). Friday has a full 15-game slate with likely better template matches.
My lean: Under 8.0 KC/DET. Cleanest thesis, doesn't require Rays to actually win, structural edge from Melton at home. If you want no action after my error on the Rays play, rest day is legit.
Tell me what you want.
